How freight quotes are calculated

Pickup Location

The area of the pickup location, accessibility, and distance play a key role in determining the transportation fee. Central locations and points close to main roads usually incur lower costs, while hard-to-reach or remote areas can lead to additional charges.

Type of the Goods

The 'Type of Goods' affects freight quotes, as hazardous, perishable, or bulky items may require special handling, leading to higher costs.

Your history with us

Regular clients or those with long-term partnerships often receive discounted rates due to their loyalty and consistent business volume. This relationship factor ensures competitive pricing and rewards for ongoing collaboration.

Transport Mode

Affects freight quotes by determining the speed, reliability, and cost of delivery. Air freight is fastest but priciest, while sea transport offers lower costs for bulk shipments but takes longer. Each mode's choice impacts the overall freight quote, tailored to the shipment's specific needs and priorities.

Lashing Requirements

Influence freight quotes by determining the need for securing cargo during transport. More complex lashing demands higher costs due to additional labor and safety measures. This ensures cargo stability and prevents damage, directly affecting the quote based on cargo type and transport mode.

Congestion

Impacts freight quotes as areas with high traffic or port congestion may incur additional costs. Delays and longer wait times increase operational expenses, affecting the final quote. Efficient routing and timing can mitigate these costs, highlighting the importance of planning in freight logistics.

How are losses or damages to goods during transit handled and compensated for?

Yes, losses or damages to goods during transit are generally covered by the carrier's liability insurance. However, it's important to note that damages often result from inadequate packaging or incorrect instructions. For this reason, securing insurance for the goods being transported is much safer. This provides an additional layer of security and more comprehensive protection against potential losses, beyond what the carrier's liability may cover.

In case of losing the original bill of lading, is it possible for the carrier to provide a replacement or issue a new one?

If the original bill of lading is lost, it is indeed possible for the carrier to issue a new one. However, this process typically involves the shipper submitting a formal application for a new bill of lading, alongside an indemnity bond. The indemnity bond protects the carrier against any potential losses or claims that may arise from issuing a duplicate bill of lading. It's important to communicate with the carrier as soon as the loss is discovered to understand their specific requirements and the steps involved in obtaining a replacement.

For transactions involving goods sold by meter or liter, is it necessary to disclose the actual weight of these goods?

When goods are sold by measurements such as meters or liters, disclosing the actual weight might not be mandatory for the sales transaction itself. However, for shipping, customs, and regulatory compliance, including the requirements under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), providing the accurate weight of the goods becomes essential. Under SOLAS, it is crucial for the safety of the vessel, its crew, and marine life that the ship's actual weight is accurately declared. This ensures proper stowage and stability of the vessel during transit.

In the event that the buyer refuses to collect the goods, who bears the responsibility for any charges incurred at the destination?

If the buyer refuses to pick up the goods, responsibility for destination charges generally falls to the seller, according to most international trade agreements such as Incoterms. However, this can vary based on the specific terms agreed upon in the sales contract. In scenarios governed by terms like DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), the seller is responsible for all risks and charges until the goods are delivered to the buyer's nominated place. Conversely, under terms like EXW (Ex Works), the buyer would typically be responsible for all charges from the point of origin.
